Elon Musk Blasts OpenAI in Courtroom Showdown
Things are getting heated in court, and at the center of it all is Elon Musk – who’s not holding anything back.
In a dramatic testimony, Musk claimed that OpenAI – the company behind ChatGPT – was originally his vision, but has since been turned into something completely different.
“This Was Never Supposed to Be About Profit”
Musk told the court that OpenAI started as a nonprofit with one clear mission: to benefit humanity, not make money.
According to him, that vision has been abandoned.
He accused CEO Sam Altman and president Greg Brockman of steering the company away from its original purpose and turning it into a profit-driven business.
At one point, Musk warned:
“If we make it okay to loot a charity, the whole system of charitable giving could collapse.”
“I Built This…”
Musk didn’t stop there. He made it very clear he believes OpenAI wouldn’t exist without him.
He told the court he:
- Came up with the idea
- Helped name the company
- Recruited key people
- Funded its early days
And most importantly, he insists it was never meant to benefit individuals financially.
OpenAI Fires Back
But OpenAI’s legal team isn’t buying it.
They pushed back hard, claiming Musk is rewriting history – and that he actually supported moving toward a for-profit model at one point.
Their argument?
This lawsuit isn’t about principle… it’s about control.
One of their lawyers put it bluntly:
“What he really wants is to be in charge.”
Billions at Stake
Musk is now seeking a staggering $150 billion in damages and wants OpenAI to return to its nonprofit roots.
He’s also calling for leadership changes – including removing Altman and Brockman.
Interestingly, Musk says any money he wins would go back into OpenAI’s charitable arm – not his pocket.
Courtroom Tensions Rise
The case is being handled by Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, who even had to step in and warn Musk about his social media activity after he publicly criticized Altman online.
Both sides have now agreed to tone things down – at least for the duration of the trial.
Bigger Than Just a Lawsuit
This isn’t just a personal feud – it’s a battle over the future of AI.
Should companies like OpenAI focus on:
- Helping humanity?
or - Making billions?
With major backing from companies like Microsoft and talks of even bigger expansion, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
What Happens Next?
The trial is far from over, with more big names expected to testify – including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
One thing’s clear:
This fight could shape the future of artificial intelligence – and who controls it.
So… is Musk protecting a mission, or fighting for power?
