It appears that summer is finally making an appearance in the UK after a prolonged period of wet and chilly weather. The Met Office forecasts temperatures to reach up to 27°C in parts of the UK next week as summer holidays begin in England.
Over the past weekend, cooler weather returned after experiencing the hottest day of 2024 on Friday, with a temperature of 31.9°C recorded at St James’s Park in central London. Sunday is expected to bring fresher, brighter, and drier weather with temperatures around the low 20s, which aligns with the July average.
Meteorologist Craig Snell from the Met Office mentioned that Sunday might start with grey skies in the east and high teens temperatures in the south, but most areas will enjoy dry and bright spells as the day progresses.
Rain is anticipated to arrive from the west on Monday, affecting the north of England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, while the south is expected to stay dry. By Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather should stabilize, with temperatures rising, potentially reaching 27°C in southern regions.
Thursday is forecasted to be wet, but typical July weather should return by the following weekend. Although it won’t be continuously sunny, the south-east and south are predicted to experience the warmest temperatures next week. This comes after a notably wet July, where London received 154% of its usual rainfall in the first half of the month, followed by a heat surge at the end of last week, prompting heat health alerts across several regions.
