President Tinubu sacks service chiefs, appoints replacements

President Bola Tinubu has relieved the nation’s Service Chiefs of their duties and appointed new heads for the armed forces.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President named General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), succeeding General Christopher Musa.

Major General W. Shaibu was appointed Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke takes over as Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral I. Abbas was named the new Chief of Naval Staff.

Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye will, however, continue in his role as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

The statement adds that the President expressed most profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa and the other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service, and dedicated leadership.

The President charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“All appointments take immediate effect,” he added.
