Two rioters carrying a knife and a knuckleduster are set to appear in Crown Court
Returning to Liverpool Magistrates’ Court, Paul Daintith has pleaded guilty to possession of a knife in a Section 60 area.
This order grants police enhanced stop-and-search powers to prevent serious violence. The court heard that Daintith was arrested after he revealed a craft knife tucked into the waistband of his trousers.
During a police interview, Daintith explained that he had the knife because he “was a smackhead who picks everything up.”
His case will be referred to Liverpool Crown Court for sentencing on 15 August due to his prior conviction for a similar offense.
After being denied bail and taken into custody, Daintith, dressed in a football shirt, shouted, “Wanker.”
In a separate case, Bristol Magistrates’ Court heard that 42-year-old Lee James struggled to remove a knuckleduster during the riots in Southampton because “he has quite thick knuckles.”
James’s representative, Janet Brownlow, stated that her client attended the protest “out of curiosity” and emphasized that he is “not a racist.”
Brownlow explained that James had picked up the knuckleduster from a property he had previously worked on and had left it in his van. He put it on before the protest.
District Judge Lynne Matthews remanded James in custody in advance of his sentencing hearing at Southampton Crown Court on 12 August.
