Mother and daughter drown while returning from farm in Borno State

Tragedy struck in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State as a woman and her daughter drowned while returning home from their farm.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the victims — 35-year-old Habiba Abubakar and her 9-year-old daughter, Adama Abubakar — both from Ghung village, drowned while attempting to cross a river on October 26, 2025, around 1:15 p.m.

Police officers and local divers later recovered their bodies from the water, with no signs of violence found.

Photographs were taken for documentation before the remains were evacuated to the General Hospital in Garkida, Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, where they were confirmed d3ad on arrival by a medical doctor.

The remains have since been released to the family for burial according to Islamic rites.

Sources said that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Maiduguri, has commenced further investigation into the incident.
