Akwa Ibom youth leader hacked to d3ath by neighbour
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Joseph Eren, over the alleged k!lling of his neighbour, Ekopimo Moses, a youth leader in Ibesikpo Local Government Area.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, September 14, 2025, the tragedy followed a heated argument between the two men on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
The confrontation reportedly escalated into a violent fight, during which both parties wielded machetes, leading to Moses’s d3ath.
Moses sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical treatment, where he d!ed.
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a man following a violent altercation in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area,” the statement read.
“On Thursday, September 11, 2025, at approximately 6:00 PM, Operatives of the Command received a report from a village head (name withheld).
“The village head stated that the community youth president, Ekopimo Effiong Moses, a 34-year-old male, had a misunderstanding with Joseph Okon Eren, a 37-year-old male who resides in the village but is originally from Ikot Obiondobo in Uruan LGA.
“The disagreement escalated into a physical fight, during which both men used machetes. Ekopimo Effiong Moses sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Hospital for urgent medical treatment. He was later pronounced d3ad by the doctor on duty.
“The suspect, Joseph Okon Eren, has been arrested and is currently in police custody. A machete, believed to be the weapon used in the incident, has been recovered. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue”, the statement concluded.
The PPRO added that the command has launched a discreet investigation into the incident, adding that further details would be communicated to the public as the investigation progresses.
