Six Arrested in Lagos for Vandalising Highway Barricade

Lagos State authorities have arrested six people for allegedly vandalising a Highway government barricade at Obalende Roundabout, a major traffic hub in the city.

The suspects were identified as Matthew Yohana, 19; Jinadu Aliyu, 33; Yohanna Adamu, 29; Ayuba James, 25; Umoru John, 19; and Yakubu Ali, 25.

Announcing the arrests, Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the culprits will face prosecution.

“All arrested individuals will be prosecuted in line with the relevant extant laws of the state. We will not allow criminality or lawlessness to undermine public safety or the environment in Lagos State,” Wahab declared.

The arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown on vandalism and disorder in Lagos. In recent months, authorities have apprehended groups involved in illegal street protests, destruction of public property, and obstruction of traffic in areas such as Ojota, Ikeja, and other parts of the metropolis.

Officials say the crackdown is part of intensified efforts to protect civic infrastructure and maintain safety at busy junctions and commercial centres. The state government urged residents to support law enforcement by reporting acts of vandalism or behaviour that could endanger public safety.

Reaffirming the administration’s stance, Wahab added, “We are determined to uphold the rule of law and ensure that Lagos remains safe and conducive for all residents and visitors.”
