The Imo State Police Command has launched a coordinated manhunt alongside other security agencies and local vigilante groups to track down the gunmen who attacked motorists and abducted several persons in Amala Autonomous Community, Ngor-Okpala LGA, on December 7, 2025. Efforts are also underway to rescue the kidnapped victims.
Preliminary investigations show that around 5:50 p.m., armed men emerged from a bush path in Amala, shot the driver of a Toyota Highlander SUV (SMK 514 BD), and abducted the occupants of a Lexus RS300 (FSD 334 XA).
Confirming the incident, the command’s spokesperson, SP Henry Okoye, said officers from the Ngor-Okpala Division responded immediately, secured the scene, and evacuated the injured driver to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“Joint security operatives have begun extensive bush-combing, search-and-rescue operations, and suspect-tracking within the Amala forest axis and nearby communities. Investigations are ongoing, and significant progress is being made toward apprehending the perpetrators,” he added.
The command assured residents that all necessary resources are being deployed to rescue the victim and forestall future occurrences. Members of the public are urged to remain calm and provide any information that may assist the ongoing operation to the nearest police station or via 0803 477 3600.
