Man arraigned for allegedly stealing pregnant dog in Akure
A 39-year-old man, Joseph Raphael, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a pregnant female dog.
Raphael, whose address was not provided, appeared before Magistrate Damilola Sekoni on a three-count charge of stealing brought against him by the Ondo State Police Command.
Police prosecutor Adebayo Sulaiman told the court that the defendant, along with others still at large, committed the offence in October 2025 at Atabioloko Street, behind Federal Girls College, Akure.
He alleged that Raphael stole the pregnant dog, valued at N500,000, belonging to one Bernard Monday.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 390(9), 495 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
Raphael pleaded not guilty to the charges.
His counsel, A. B. Ogboye, applied for bail, assuring the court that dependable sureties would be provided.
In his ruling, Magistrate Sekoni granted bail in the sum of ₦200,000 with two sureties in the same amount.
The court also directed that the sureties must present affidavits of means, provide two passport photographs each of themselves and the defendant, and show proof of gainful employment.
The registrar was ordered to verify their addresses.
The case was adjourned till January 16, 2026, for hearing.
