Governor Fubara denies rift with Rivers Lawmakers
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has firmly denied reports of a rift between him and members of the national and state assemblies, describing claims of strained relations as “pure lies.”
The governor spoke on Wednesday, December 10, during the commissioning of the newly extended and dualised 28.4-kilometre Ahoada Omoku Road. His remarks followed just a day after announcing his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting to rumours that he had avoided lawmakers or ignored their requests, Fubara maintained that he had made “every effort” to convene a meeting with them.
He explained that the responsibility for scheduling the meeting lay with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, along with other key leaders.
I’m not avoiding the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. We were supposed to meet, but the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike hasn’t set up a meeting yet.
