“Colombian Vice President and Husband Arrive in Abuja for Three-Day Official Visit”
The Vice President of Colombia, Francia Márquez, has arrived in Abuja with her husband, Rafael Yerney Pinillo Ocoró, for a three-day official visit to Nigeria.
On arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the Colombian Vice President was received by Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, alongside the Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Bunkure. Also present to welcome her were the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Director General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, and other senior government officials.
Márquez’s visit aims to strengthen diplomatic and strategic ties between Nigeria and Colombia, with a focus on governance, trade, agriculture, energy, education, security, and other key sectors.
She is accompanied by cabinet ministers, top officials, and business leaders from Colombia, who are scheduled to hold discussions with their Nigerian counterparts on deepening cooperation across multiple fields.
A major highlight of the visit will be the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in priority areas such as women’s empowerment, trade, aviation, manufacturing, agriculture, and culture.
The visit will also feature a plenary session to be graced by both vice presidents of the two countries and the Nigeria-Colombia Business Forum, government-to-government bilateral meetings, side events, including high-level business sector meetings hosted by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, as well as a summit on artificial intelligence.
