The body of a three-year-old child has been recovered following a flood incident in Kaduna State.
The body of a three-year-old girl, identified as Haneefa, has been recovered in Zaria, Kaduna State, days after she was swept away by floodwaters.
Haneefa went missing after a heavy downpour on September 8, 2025, caused severe flooding in Tudun Jukun, Zaria, which also swept away her siblings.
Confirming the development, Abdulmumin Adamu of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Zaria Division, said:
“On 14th September, 2025, at about 11:00 a.m., the remains of Haneefa were found at Gangaren Kasan Killaco, Gyallesu, Zaria. This recovery concludes the search and confirms that all victims of the flood have now been accounted for.”
The September 8 flooding in Tukur Tukur Ward, Zaria, had earlier claimed the lives of two students — Fatima Sani Danmarke of the School of Basic and Remedial Studies, Funtua, and Yusuf Surajo, popularly known as Abba.
Haneefa, a 3-year old baby, who was backed by her sister Fatima was reported missing and her body has now been recovered.
Confirming the recovery, Haneefa’s grandfather, Mallam Suleiman of Layin Adamu Mai Aljana, said the body was recovered and brought back on Sunday afternoon, September 14.
Suleiman, who said Haneefa’s father, Sunusi, left for Umrah (lesser Hajj) on Friday, confirmed that the father was around when the incident occurred.
“I was called around 12 noon and informed that Haneefa’s body had been recovered. So I rushed home to discover the story is true.
“We then organized for funeral prayer and subsequent burial of the deceased at about 1pm. Remember that we had earlier performed Salatul Gaib prayer (prayer for an undiscovered corpse) after magrib prayers at the Isa cikon kwami mosque in Magume.” he explained.
Suleiman prayed for those that assisted the family amid the crisis and appreciated those who contributed towards the recovery of his daughters.
