Rivers Police Arrest Suspect Featured in Viral Car Snatching Video

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a suspect linked to a viral video showing the armed theft of a Toyota Avalon in Choba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Iruo Young, was apprehended at his hideout in Ikoku, Port Harcourt.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 16, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the arrest followed a manhunt for the suspects seen in the viral footage intercepting and robbing a car owner at gunpoint.

“The incident, which occurred around 3:00 p.m., involved the snatching of a Toyota Avalon at gunpoint. Through intelligence-led policing and technical support, operatives of the Command successfully tracked and arrested one of the suspects, identified as Iruo Young, at his hideout in Ikoku, Port Harcourt,” the statement read.

“During interrogation, the  suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime, providing detailed information about his involvement in the robbery incident.”

Iringe-Koko added that efforts were ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang and recover the stolen vehicle as well as the firearms used in the operation

The state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the operatives for their swift response and diligence.

The CP also thanked residents for sharing credible information that aided the arrest, warning that criminals would find no hiding place in any part of the state.
