Police have recovered 210 rounds of live ammunition abandoned along a highway, authorities confirmed on Thursday.

Police in Kaduna State have recovered 210 rounds of 7.56mm ammunition that were abandoned on the Zaria–Funtua highway.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 26, the command’s spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, said the ammunition was discovered after residents alerted the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Samaru that passengers in a black Volkswagen Golf had thrown a sack out of their moving vehicle around the Dogo Itace area of Zaria.

A patrol team was immediately dispatched to the scene, where officers found the sack containing the ammunition. The DPO then notified other police divisions along the route up to Funtua, but attempts to track down and intercept the fleeing vehicle were unsuccessful.

Hassan added that the suspects may have abandoned the ammunition after noticing increased police patrols and snap checkpoints recently introduced along the highway.

The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna, Rabiu Muhammad, called on residents to remain vigilant and continue to share timely information with security agencies. He said a manhunt for the fleeing suspects had commenced.

Muhammad reassured the public of the command’s commitment to proactive policing and warned criminal elements to stay away from the state or face the full weight of the law.
