Police arrest two IDPs for allegedly k!lling 72-year-old man over witchcraft accusation in Borno
The Borno State Police Command has arrested two Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) for allegedly beating a 72-year-old man to d3ath at the ISS IDP camp in Ngala Local Government Area.
The incident happened on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
The suspects, identified as 25-year-old Modu Mohammed and 32-year-old Annami Modu, reportedly conspired to attack the victim, Abba Mustapha, accusing him of witchcraft and blaming him for the ill health of one suspect’s wife.
“They assaulted the victim in his home at the camp using sticks,” security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed.
Police officers at the camp rescued Mustapha and rushed him to the General Hospital in Ngala, where he was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The suspects were arrested at the scene, while four sticks used in the assault were recovered as exhibits.
The corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy and was later released to his family for burial in line with Islamic rites.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Maiduguri, had commenced a full investigation into the matter.
