Police arrest masquerade in Akwa Ibom days after state governor, Umo Eno, banned their activities

Police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested a masquerade performer for parading despite the recent statewide ban on such displays issued by Governor Umo Eno.

Over the weekend, Governor Eno announced an indefinite suspension of masquerade activities, citing a surge in attacks carried out by criminals hiding under the guise of traditional performances. Speaking at a state function, he explained that the ban became necessary following a series of violent incidents involving individuals disguising themselves as masquerades to terrorize communities.

This morning, men of the state police command apprehended a masquerade  parading the state. According to the police officers, the apprehended masquerade will be charged to court as soon as possible.
