DSS recaptures wanted Ansaru terrorist who escaped during Kuje prison break

The Department of State Services (DSS) has rearrested a wanted Ansaru terrorist, Abdulazeez Obadaki.

Obadaki was among the 879 inmates who escaped from the Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja in 2022 after the facility was attacked in a coordinated assault by Islamic State-linked militants.

He is accused of masterminding several violent incidents, including bank attacks in Uromi, Edo State, and the fatal shooting at Deeper Life College in Okene, Kogi State.

A DSS source confirmed his rearrest but declined to provide further details about the operation.

The development comes nearly three months after the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, announced the arrest of two men described as leaders of the Ansaru terrorist group.
