Police arrest man for def!ling 8-year-old girl in Yobe
The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended one Mika’ilu Abdulkarim from Tsirma Village in Jigawa State for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl, identified as Hafsat Babagana, from Garin Alkali in Bursari Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the suspect reportedly lured the minor—who is of unsound mind—with a promise of ₦500 before assaulting her at the Garin Alkali Market.
“Police operatives from the Garin Alkali Division promptly arrested the suspect after receiving a report from the victim’s father. Both the suspect and the victim were taken to the Specialist Hospital, Gashu’a, for medical examination,” the statement added.
“The case has been transferred to the State CID, Damaturu, for further investigation, and the suspect will be charged to court thereafter.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado psc, fdc condemned the act and urged parents to remain vigilant while calling on communities to support efforts against sexual and gender-based violence.”
