Mentally ill young man st@bs NSCDC officer to d3ath in Ondo

A personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been st@bbed to d3ath by a mentally unstable 19-year-old in Ondo State.

The deceased officer, identified as Babalola Joseph Idowu, was k!lled on Thursday, November 20, 2025, while attempting to restrain the mentally ill young man, who had reportedly been disturbing residents of the Oke Ala community in Oba Ile, Akure North Local Government Area.

Sources said the suspect’s mother had called NSCDC officials for help after years of struggling to control her son’s violent behaviour.

According to an eyewitness, two NSCDC operatives were in the process of taking the young man to a psychiatric facility when he suddenly overpowered one of them, leading to the tragic incident.

All attempts to calm him failed, and he overpowered the officer, grabbed the officer’s knife, and repeatedly st@bbed him before fleeing the scene.

The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital but later d!ed from the injuries sustained in the attack.

“The boy suddenly became violent. He struggled with the officer, took his knife and st@bbed him several times. It was shocking because the officer was even armed, yet he could not prevent the attack,” an eyewitness recounted.

Confirming the incident, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, Daniel Aidamenbor, said the officers were attempting to take the young man to a psychiatric hospital when the attack occurred.

He explained that the young man overpowered the officers, grabbed the officer’s knife, and st@bbed him repeatedly.

Aidamenbor said the officers’ intervention was intended to protect both the suspect and the community.
