Lagos State government seals supermarket for selling products packaged in single-use plastics
The Lagos State Government on Tuesday, October 29, sealed three supermarkets in Kosofe Local Government Area for selling items packaged in single-use plastics.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the enforcement teams continued operations across several locations in Kosofe to ensure full compliance with the state’s ban on Single-Use Plastics (SUPs).
“Winny Supermarket has been sealed, and all SUP materials confiscated for non-compliance. Likewise, Afia Supermarket at Tipper Garage, Ketu, and Beyond Tastee2Go Restaurant on Ogudu Road, Ojota, were sealed on Tuesday, October 29, 2025, after repeated warnings were ignored,” Wahab stated.
This ongoing exercise is part of our broader effort to curb plastic pollution, protect the environment, and promote a sustainable waste management culture in Lagos. Businesses are urged to transition to eco-friendly alternatives as the state intensifies enforcement.
Our goal remains clear; to safeguard public health and protect our environment for a #CleanerLagos and a #GreaterLagos.”
The Lagos state government has since banned the use of Single-Use-Plastics in the state as part of measures to maintain a healthy environment and keep the state clean. Residents have over the years illegally dumped the Single-use-plastics which in turn clog the water channels in the state thereby contributing to the many causes of flooding in the state.
