Jennifer Lopez files for divorce from Ben Affleck
Once known as “Bennifer,” Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have split for the second time in 20 years—this time, heading for divorce. The date the court papers were filed holds special significance for the couple.
Singer and actor Jennifer Lopez is divorcing Ben Affleck after two years of marriage.
The Hollywood couple wed in Las Vegas in July 2022, rekindling their relationship nearly 20 years after calling off their first engagement.
Court documents obtained by Sky News reveal that Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday—exactly two years after their larger wedding ceremony, which took place a month after their Vegas nuptials.
Lopez listed their separation date as April 26, and there is no prenuptial agreement, according to entertainment news outlet TMZ.
Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, first met around 2001 while filming their romcom *Gigli* and announced their engagement the following year.
Dubbed “Bennifer,” they quickly became a Hollywood power couple and even poked fun at the media frenzy surrounding their relationship when Affleck appeared in Lopez’s music video for her hit single “Jenny From The Block.”
However, shortly before their 2003 wedding, the couple postponed the ceremony due to “excessive media attention,” and their split was officially announced in early 2004.
Both Lopez and Affleck went on to marry and have children with other partners—Lopez married her long-time friend Marc Anthony and welcomed twins in 2008, while Ben Affleck married actress Jennifer Garner, with whom he had three children.
Rumors of a reunion began circulating in 2021 when the pair, both single at the time, were spotted together. Later that year, they confirmed the return of Bennifer.
In an interview, Lopez described their first breakup as “the biggest heartbreak” of her life.
“I honestly felt like I was going to die,” she shared in a November 2022 interview with Apple Music. “But now, 20 years later, it does have a happy ending.”
The couple had two weddings in 2022—first, a spontaneous ceremony in Las Vegas where they stood in line for their license with four other couples and got married at A Little White Wedding Chapel.
Lopez recounted how a Bluetooth speaker played their brief march down the aisle, calling it the best night of their lives.
A month later, they celebrated with a much grander wedding at Affleck’s house in Georgia, surrounded by friends and family.
“Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” Lopez wrote when announcing their spontaneous Las Vegas wedding, signing off as Jennifer Lynn Affleck.
However, by early 2024, reports began circulating that the couple had once again parted ways.
In May, during a press conference in Mexico for her Netflix film *Atlas*, a journalist asked Lopez about the rumors. She responded, “You know better than that.”
Representatives for both stars have yet to respond to requests for comment.
Lopez, a renowned singer and actress, is famous for hits like “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” “If You Had My Love,” “I’m Real,” and “On The Floor,” as well as films such as *Out of Sight*, *Maid in Manhattan*, and *Hustlers*.
Affleck is an actor, producer, and writer, best known for his Oscar-winning work on *Argo* and *Good Will Hunting*.
