31-year-old man takes own life after jumping into a domestic well in Kwara
A 31-year-old man, identified as Abdullateef, has taken his own life by jumping into a domestic well in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, November 23, 2025, while residents were still asleep.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said Abdullateef had earlier attempted to jump into the well but did not succeed.
He noted that firefighters were immediately dispatched after the Service received a distress call. The rescue team later recovered Abdullateef’s body and handed it over to the family head.
“On Sunday, 23rd November 2025, at 04:33hrs, the Kwara State Fire Service responded to a distress call for a rescue operation at Bolarinwa Compound, Centre Igboro Area, Ilorin,” the statement read.
“Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a 31-year-old man named Abdullateef had deliberately jumped into a domestic well. Findings revealed that he had reportedly been making repeated attempts since the previous day, expressing intentions of taking his own life.
“Sadly, he made the final attempt while other occupants were asleep, leaving no one available to intervene, resulting in his demise.
“Firefighters conducted a professional recovery operation, and his lifeless body was retrieved from the well and subsequently handed over to the head of the family, Alhaji Bolarinwa.
“The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed deep sadness over the tragic incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the Bolarinwa family.
“He urged the public to remain vigilant and attentive to individuals exhibiting signs of distress or suicidal tendencies, emphasizing that early intervention and close monitoring can prevent such unforeseen tragedies.
“The Kwara State Fire Service remains committed to safeguarding lives and promoting community safety across the state.”
