25-year-old man arrested for allegedly hacking 15-year-old wife to death in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Sufiyanu Aliyu, from Gwanyal Village in Tangaza Local Government Area, for allegedly killing his 15-year-old wife, Suwaiba Abubakar Bawa, around 7:30 p.m. on October 27.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had a heated argument with his wife, which escalated and turned violent. Aliyu allegedly attacked her with a knife, inflicting fatal wounds that led to her death.

“Upon receiving the report, police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene. The area was secured, processed, and cordoned off for forensic examination. The suspect was arrested at the scene, and a knife believed to be the murder weapon was recovered as evidence,” the statement read.

The police imagemaker said the victim’s body was evacuated to a hospital, where a medical doctor officially confirmed her de@th.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.

The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, has commended the swift response of the officers involved and has reassured the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that justice is served in all cases.
