Tinubu, Trump set to meet over alleged Christian genocide — Presidential aide Daniel Bwala
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has confirmed that President Tinubu and former U.S. President Donald Trump will meet “in the coming days.”
According to Bwala, the meeting will center on allegations of a Christian genocide in Nigeria — a topic that has drawn global attention following Trump’s recent statement accusing the Nigerian government of ignoring attacks on Christians. The remark has sparked intense debate both within and outside the country.
Bwala emphasized the mutual commitment of both leaders to combating insurgency and terrorism. He noted Trump’s longstanding support for Nigeria, including his approval of arms sales during his administration, and commended President Tinubu for effectively leveraging that support in counter-terrorism operations, which he said are now producing tangible results.
Addressing the division over whether terrorist groups in Nigeria target Christians exclusively or attack all faiths indiscriminately, Mr. Bwala stated that any such differences in perspective would be addressed and resolved when the two leaders meet. He added that the summit could take place at the State House in Abuja or the White House in Washington.
“Both President Bola Tinubu and President Donald Trump have shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity,” he remarked.
“President Trump has assisted Nigeria a lot by authorizing the sale of arms to Nigeria and President Tinubu has adequately utilized the opportunity in the fight against terrorism for which we have massive results to show for it.”
He concluded: “As for the differences as to whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or in fact all faiths and no faiths, the differences if they exist would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet in the coming days, either in State House or White House.”
