Two men found dead in a burned-out car in Sweden have been identified as British nationals, officials confirm.
Juan Cifuentes and Farooq Abdulrazak were reported missing in July after failing to return home from a business trip to Denmark and Sweden.
Swedish prosecutors have now confirmed that the remains belong to the two men.
Prosecutor Magnus Petterson told Sky News that a “large murder investigation” is ongoing, along with a public appeal for any information related to the case.
“We are working to determine exactly what happened at the scene, why the British nationals were in Malmö, and what transpired afterward,” he said.
“We are examining a substantial amount of digital evidence, including data from mobile phones and nearby cameras—everything we use to communicate,” said the prosecutor.
The car was discovered in Malmö, and Swedish media reports suggest that at least one of the victims was shot before the vehicle was set on fire.
No arrests have been made in connection with the deaths.
Reports from the time indicate that the Britons had rented a Toyota Rav 4 at Copenhagen Airport before it was discovered as a burned-out shell around 2 p.m. local time on July 14.
Images from the scene showed forensic investigators inspecting the remnants of the car, with police tape cordoning off the area.
