Pomelo Care Raises $46M to Revolutionize Virtual Maternity Care

In a time when digital health platforms are transforming how we approach healthcare, Pomelo Care has made headlines by securing $46 million in funding. This marks a significant milestone in the company’s mission to redefine maternity care through a virtual-first approach. With the increasing demand for accessible and personalized care during pregnancy, Pomelo Care is carving out a niche in the rapidly evolving digital health sector. Let’s take a closer look at how this platform is poised to change the landscape of maternal health.

What is Pomelo Care?

Pomelo Care is a digital health company focused on providing comprehensive, high-quality maternity care to pregnant women and new mothers. By leveraging technology, the platform offers remote access to medical professionals and tailored support throughout pregnancy and postpartum, which is often a critical time for maternal and infant health.

The company’s services are designed to address various aspects of maternity care, from routine checkups to the management of high-risk pregnancies. Their holistic approach blends clinical expertise with the convenience of virtual care, helping to ensure that expecting mothers receive consistent, top-tier medical support, regardless of their location.

The $46M Funding Round: A Boost for Maternal Health

Pomelo Care’s recent $46 million funding round was led by notable investors who recognize the urgent need for improvements in maternal health outcomes. This fresh capital injection will enable the company to scale its platform, improve technological infrastructure, and expand its service offerings to reach more women in need of care. By building out its capabilities, Pomelo Care is addressing a critical gap in healthcare: the accessibility and quality of prenatal and postnatal care for women in underserved communities.

This funding is also a signal that the healthcare industry is placing more trust in virtual-first models. As more people turn to telehealth solutions, platforms like Pomelo Care will likely continue to see growth.

Why Virtual Maternity Care?

The traditional healthcare system often presents barriers for pregnant women, including long wait times, transportation challenges, and limited access to specialized care. For women in rural areas or those with high-risk pregnancies, these barriers can become even more pronounced.

Pomelo Care’s virtual platform aims to break down these obstacles by providing:

  • Remote Consultations: Expecting mothers can connect with obstetricians, midwives, and other specialists without needing to leave their homes.
  • Personalized Care Plans: The platform creates customized maternity care plans based on a woman’s specific health needs and pregnancy history.
  • Continuous Monitoring: High-risk pregnancies require constant monitoring, which can be challenging in traditional healthcare settings. With Pomelo Care, women can have their vitals tracked remotely, ensuring any complications are detected early.
  • Postpartum Support: The postpartum period is a crucial time for both the mother and the baby. Pomelo Care extends its services beyond delivery, offering mental health resources, lactation support, and more.

A Response to Maternal Health Challenges

In the U.S., maternal health outcomes are far from ideal. According to the CDC, the country has one of the highest maternal mortality rates among developed nations. Many women, particularly those in marginalized communities, face challenges accessing the care they need, leading to preventable complications and even deaths during pregnancy and childbirth.

Pomelo Care is stepping in to bridge this gap. By offering an accessible, affordable, and high-quality alternative to in-person care, the platform has the potential to significantly improve maternal health outcomes. This focus is timely, as governments and healthcare providers alike are increasingly seeking solutions that address health disparities, particularly in maternal and infant health.

The Future of Maternal Health with Pomelo Care

As Pomelo Care continues to grow with the backing of its recent funding, it will likely play a crucial role in reshaping how maternity care is delivered in the digital age. With its innovative use of technology, the platform offers a promising solution to the long-standing challenges of maternal healthcare accessibility and quality.

By making maternity care more convenient, personalized, and continuous, Pomelo Care is not only addressing immediate healthcare needs but also empowering women to take control of their health during one of the most important times in their lives.

The virtual healthcare revolution is just beginning, and Pomelo Care is at the forefront of ensuring that pregnancy and postpartum care are no longer limited by geography, time, or resources.

Conclusion

Pomelo Care’s $46 million funding is not just a financial victory—it’s a win for the countless women who stand to benefit from improved access to high-quality maternity care. With this momentum, the company is well-positioned to lead the charge in making virtual maternity care a standard part of healthcare for women everywhere. The future of maternal health is digital, and Pomelo Care is ensuring that no mother is left behind.

ARTICLE SUMMARY

Pomelo Care, a virtual maternity care platform, has announced the successful completion of a $46 million Series B funding round.

The round was co-led by existing investors Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and First Round Capital, with additional participation from Stripes, Operator Partners, SV Angel, BoxGroup, and angel investors Adam Boehler and Puneet Singh.

Based in New York, Pomelo Care partners with employers, health plans, and providers to deliver virtual care for fertility, pregnancy, and newborns, from preconception through the baby’s first year. Their services include nutrition counseling, educational resources, primary and women’s health care, and 24/7 access via phone, text, or video with a dedicated care team.

“We’ve long understood what reduces maternal and infant complications, but traditional healthcare systems have struggled to implement these interventions,” said Pomelo Care founder and CEO Marta Bralic Kerns in an email to MobiHealthNews. “Our care model is already addressing the root causes of the maternal health crisis, as demonstrated by data we presented at ACOG. With this new funding, we’ll expand our model to reach more patients through commercial and Medicaid plans, improving outcomes nationwide.”

Marigold Health, which provides an AI-supported peer support chat platform for individuals with substance use disorders and other mental health challenges, has secured $11 million in a Series A funding round led by Rock Health and Innospark Ventures.

Additional participants in the round included Commonwealth Care Alliance, KdT Ventures, Epsilon Health Investors, VNS Health Plan, Stand Together Ventures Lab, Koa Labs, and Wavemaker360.

The company offers an anonymous peer support program that provides 24/7 access to text-based support groups and personalized one-on-one coaching from certified specialists for those struggling with substance use or mental health conditions.

The newly raised funds will help Marigold Health expand its reach, grow its partnerships, and scale its peer support workforce.

“Historically, investment in substance use disorder care has focused on the small fraction of people already in or open to treatment,” said Marigold Health founder and CEO Shrenik Jain. “These treatments often fall short in effectiveness, but peer support is the quiet force behind many recoveries. We’re building a safe space where our members can support one another and make the most of a flawed system.”
