Police Launch Investigation After Woman’s Body Found Near University in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 45-year-old woman whose body was discovered near the Federal University, Gashua (FUG), in Bade Local Government Area.

In a statement released on Saturday, October 18, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, identified the deceased as Falmata Abubakar, a resident of Abasha, Sarkin Hausawa Ward, Gashua. She was reportedly found dressed in a black hijab.

According to the statement, the police received a report from one Yusuf Sarkin Baka, a resident of Sabon Daula Ward, Bade LGA, about a woman’s body discovered near the university’s perimeter fence.

Upon receiving the report, a team of police operatives from the Gashua Division promptly visited the scene for an on-the-spot investigation.

The police spokesman said that the body was immediately evacuated to the Specialist Hospital, Gashua, where it was examined and confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

He said preliminary investigation was initiated and the corpse was later released to the deceased’s family after autopsy for proper burial according to Islamic rites.

However, further investigation revealed that the deceased’s body was transported in a vehicle and dumped at the location where it was found, approximately two kilometres away from her residence.

The statement added that, “this new finding has intensified efforts by detectives to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind the act.”
