Police arrest herders for destroying ₦95 million tree plantation in Ogun State
Police in Ogun State have arrested two herders for allegedly destroying a government-owned tree plantation worth ₦95 million in the Olokemeji Range, located in Odeda Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Haruna Oseni (23) and another herder known simply as ZZ (30), both from Oyo State, were apprehended around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025, while grazing their cattle within the plantation managed by the Ogun State Ministry of Forestry.
According to a report filed by Dr. Bashiru Adeniyi, a senior official of the ministry, the herders’ cattle destroyed a significant portion of the plantation, including young trees and seedlings, causing extensive damage to government property.
Upon receiving the complaint, detectives from the Odeda Division promptly moved to the scene, arrested the suspects, and took photographs of the damaged area.
The police confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody undergoing interrogation while investigation continues.
