Oasis reunion: Maldron Hotels accused of canceling bookings on concert night before “re-listing rooms at a higher price.”
An Oasis fan claims he reserved a room at Maldron Hotels in Manchester city centre for July 20, the last night of Oasis’s shows at Heaton Park. However, after the concerts were announced, the hotel canceled his booking “due to a technical error.”
A hotel chain in Manchester is facing allegations of canceling bookings following the announcement of the Oasis reunion and then relisting the rooms at a higher rate.
Sacha Lord, the night-time economy adviser for Greater Manchester, tweeted last night that he had been contacted by “several people” who were informed their bookings at Maldron Hotels had been canceled due to a “computer error.”
He claimed that these rooms were subsequently relisted at three times the original price.
Several users have responded, indicating they have also been impacted by this issue.
Oasis fan Mark Slinger, 36, who resides on the Isle of Man, told Sky News that he reserved a room at the four-star Maldron Hotel in Manchester city centre for July 20—the last night of Oasis’s concert series at Heaton Park next year.
He made the £90 reservation through booking.com yesterday morning when the band announced their highly anticipated reunion tour.
However, he was contacted by the hotel in the evening, requesting that he cancel his booking.
The email states: “We are writing to inform you about a problem with your booking at Maldron Hotel Manchester City Centre.
“Due to a technical error, you received a confirmation for a booking that was not successfully processed. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate your reservation at this time.”
The email also mentioned that a cancellation request had been sent, which Mark was asked to “accept promptly.”
He told Sky News that he hasn’t accepted the request and has no intention of doing so. Additionally, he doesn’t believe the problem was due to a “technical error.”
“They realized they could cancel and re-sell at four times the price because of the Oasis concert,” he stated.
Maldron Hotels stated to Sky News: “Due to a technical error in our booking system on August 26th and 27th, 2024, significantly more rooms were booked than were available for the Oasis concerts on July 11th, 12th, 19th, and 20th, 2025, at Maldron Hotel Manchester City and Maldron Hotel Cathedral Quarter.
“As a result, we are unable to honor all bookings made for these dates, and we are actively working with customers regarding their reservations.
“The hotels are currently not accepting any new bookings while we investigate this issue. This is not an attempt to resell rooms at inflated prices; rather, it is an overbooking situation due to a technical error in our systems.
“Furthermore, due to the same technical error, a small number of customers were able to book rooms at a higher price later that evening, and we will also be unable to accommodate these reservations.
“We will honor all bookings made prior to August 26th. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
