Man arraigned for attempting to steal pepper in Ondo State
A 22-year-old man, Eze Sunday, has been arraigned before the Odigbo Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing pepper valued at ₦100,000.
He faces two counts of conspiracy and stealing.
According to court documents, the offence was allegedly committed on September 21, 2025, around 1:30 p.m. at Otu Camp, Ore, in Ondo State.
The prosecuting officer, Inspector Usifoh James, told the court that the defendant and an accomplice, who is currently at large, conspired to steal the pepper belonging to Adebayo Ajodun.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution noted that the alleged offences contravene Sections 51 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006 and requested an adjournment to study the case file and prepare witnesses for trial.
The defence counsel, Mr. I.D. Eliphus, supported the adjournment and applied for bail on liberal terms.
Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu, subsequently granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties of the same amount.
The case has been adjourned to October 13, 2025 for further proceedings.
