LAUTECH suspends academic activities after hit-and-run driver k!lled 200-level student
The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Iseyin Campus, has announced a two-week suspension of academic activities following the tragic d3ath of a student, Miss Afolayan Oluwadarasimi Roseline, who was k!lled by a yet-to-be-identified commercial driver.
The incident occurred on the Iseyin–Saki Road in Oyo State on Friday morning, November 7, 2025.
According to reports, Oluwadarasimi, a 200-level student of Agricultural Economics in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, was on her way to refill her gas cylinder when she was fatally hit from behind by the speeding driver.
In the aftermath of the accident, enraged students staged a protest and set the commercial bus ablaze after the driver fled the scene.
Confirming the development in a statement on Saturday, the university’s Registrar, Olayinka Balogun, said management had approved a two-week suspension of all activities at the Iseyin campus in response to the tragic incident.
“The management of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, deeply regrets to announce the tragic passing of a 200-level student of the Department of Agricultural Economics, who was fatally wounded by a hit-and-run driver in Iseyin,” the statement read.
“This heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow over our university community, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
“In light of this grievous loss, and in recognition of the emotional toll it has taken on our students and staff, the university management has approved a two-week suspension of academic activities at the Iseyin campus, effective immediately.
“Consequently, all students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources are to proceed on a two-week break.
“While students will be expected back in their classrooms on Monday, November 24, 2025, when academic activities resume, officers on essential services who may be required to be on duty will be informed in the usual manner.”
Balogun urged all students to remain safe, support one another, and honour the memory of their departed colleague.
