Governor Mbah set to defect to APC on Tuesday
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, is set to formally defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Enugu, the state capital.
According to sources within both parties who spoke to The Nation, the defection ceremony will be held in grand style, with Governor Mbah expected to join the APC alongside elected national and state legislators, members of the state executive council, and party leaders from various wards and local government areas across Enugu State.
The APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and the Deputy National Chairman (South), Hon. Emma Eneukwu, hinted at the impending defection during the inauguration of a seven-man caretaker committee for the party in Enugu.
They described Mbah’s defection as part of broader efforts to expand the APC’s presence in the South East and strengthen the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Confirming the plan, the newly inaugurated Enugu State APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, told journalists at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja that Governor Mbah and his political allies will be formally received into the party on October 14.
Dr. Nwoye said, “The governor and his appointees will officially be received into the APC on October 14. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for Enugu State under the leadership of the ruling party.”
The defection follows the dissolution of the Enugu State Working Committee (SWC) by the APC National Working Committee (NWC) last Thursday, which subsequently appointed a seven-member caretaker committee to manage the party’s affairs in the state.
Party insiders believe Mbah’s entry into the APC will reshape political dynamics in Enugu and the broader South East region, potentially consolidating federal and state collaboration under the ruling party’s banner.
