Four sentenced to death by hanging for mechanic’s murder in Kano
A Kano State High Court has sentenced four men to death by hanging for the murder of a mechanic, Rilwanu Ilyasu, popularly known as Nanu, in the Farawa Layout area of Kano.
The convicts are Abubakar Sadiq (also known as Alhaji Sallari), Abdulmajid Jibrin, Nasiru Sani, and Yusuf Sani.
They were found guilty of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, offences contrary to Sections 97 and 221(b) of the Penal Code.
According to the prosecution, led by Barrister Safiya Yalwati Yahaya, the incident occurred on April 13, 2016.
She stated that the convicts stormed Ilyasu’s house armed with an axe and other weapons, which they used to attack and kill him.
According to the prosecution, the convicts believed that the deceased had reported one of them to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), which led to his arrest and the seizure of hard drugs and N27,000.
Ilyasu d!ed from the injuries he sustained during the attack.
The prosecution called eight witnesses and presented several exhibits, including the axe used in the attack during the trial.
After carefully reviewing the evidence, the judge ruled that the four men were guilty of the charges and sentenced them to d3ath by hanging.
Two other suspects, identified as Nura Farin Boss and Dan Bayo, were still at large.
“This judgment reflects the unwavering commitment of the Kano State Ministry of Justice to ensuring that justice is served in accordance with the law, in line with the vision of the Administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, to promote fairness, accountability, and the rule of law under the leadership of the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru,” the Kano State Ministry of Justice stated in a statement on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
