Christy Carlson Romano Hospitalized After Getting Shot in the Eye
Christy Carlson Romano is recovering after sustaining severe injuries during a shooting excursion.
The Even Stevens alum revealed that she was hospitalized on Feb. 7 after being accidentally shot multiple times in the face during a clay pigeon shooting trip in Austin, Texas, where she and her husband, Brendan Rooney, live. The outing was meant to celebrate Rooney’s 42nd birthday.
“I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present,” the 40-year-old shared on Instagram on Feb. 8, alongside a video displaying injuries to her right eye and forehead. “Another party with us fired unsafely in the wrong direction and hit me in the face.”
Romano credited her husband for quickly assessing her injuries and rushing her to the hospital.
“I was hit in five places, with one shot landing less than an inch from my right eye,” she explained. “A fragment is lodged behind my eye, and surgical removal is too risky at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me, but I can see normally for now.”
The Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test star—who shares daughters Isabella Victoria, 8, and Sophia Elizabeth, 5, with Rooney—expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal.
“I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much,” she said. “I saw my life flash before my eyes. Hug the people around you every chance you get—life can change in an instant.”
In her video, the Kim Possible alum thanked the medical staff and first responders, calling them “amazing, superhero-like people who take care of us in our most desperate times.”
Reflecting on her survival, she added, “Everything’s clearing up, but I can say I got shot in the face and lived to tell the tale. Be grateful for every day.”
Rooney, her husband of over 11 years, praised her resilience in the comments.
“You are the bravest, toughest, most stoic, and badass woman I have ever met,” he wrote. “I am so thankful you are alive and the mother to our children. I wouldn’t know what to do without you. I love you more than life itself.”
Romano responded with humor, writing, “God saved me so I could tell you to clean up your empty cans around the house,” adding, “Laughter helps.”
Rooney also reshared her video on his Instagram Stories, urging followers to “Kiss your loved ones.”
“There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face,” she wrote on Instagram. “@thebrendanrooney immediately sprung into action, assessed me, and rushed me to the hospital. I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye.”
The Kim Possible alum continued, “Unfortunately a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment).”
The actress said she was grateful to be alive. “I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much,” she said. “I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant.”
