Bandits Attack Jigawa Polytechnic Hostel, Injure Two and Steal Phones
Bandits stormed the students’ quarters of Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia, along Malam Madori Road in Jigawa State on Thursday night, September 25, 2025.
The attackers assaulted several students, snatched numerous mobile phones, and attempted to abduct some occupants but were thwarted by the victims’ loud cries for help.
An eyewitness told Punch, “It was around midnight when the attackers came. They caused chaos, injured some students, and took away many phones belonging to the students.”
Another witness, Tukur Danlami, added, “If not for the loud shouts and screams of the students, we wouldn’t have known what happened. Neighbours from nearby communities rushed to help, forcing the attackers to flee.”
Two BUPOLY students also recounted the incident in separate telephone interviews with the publication on Friday.
“We heard loud noises and commotion and saw people running away with phones in their hands. We were very scared,” the student said.
Another student, Yunusa Yaro, explained, “They entered our dormitory with weapons, attacked us, and stole several phones without warning. Thankfully, we escaped unharmed.”
The spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Shi’isu Adam, who confirmed the development said the attack occurred on Thursday night at an off-campus male hostel rented by students, not far from the institution.
“The location is quite isolated, which made it vulnerable to the assault by the unknown armed men,” he said.
Adam added that policemen stationed nearby immediately rushed to the scene after receiving the distress call.
“From our records, two students were seriously injured during the attack, They were promptly taken to the Hadejia General Hospital for medical treatment. As I am speaking to you this evening (Friday), they have been discharged by the medical doctor,” he disclosed.
The police spokesperson assured that investigations were ongoing to apprehend the culprits, while security had been reinforced around the polytechnic and its environs to prevent a recurrence.
