TikTok bans night-time live streaming for Nigerian users
TikTok has temporarily limited access to its live-streaming feature for users in Nigeria during late-night hours as part of an ongoing safety review. In an in-app notification sent at midnight on Sunday, December 7, the platform announced that LIVE access would be restricted between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. to enhance user safety.
During the restriction window, users attempting to go live received a “No Access” notice and were also unable to view live broadcasts from outside the country. TikTok has yet to disclose how long the temporary measure will last.
The move follows the company’s recent West Africa Safety Summit in Dakar, where TikTok revealed it took action against over 2.3 million LIVE sessions globally and banned 49,512 LIVE sessions in Nigeria in the second quarter of 2025.
The company also removed 3.78 million videos in Nigeria for Community Guidelines violations, with most taken down before being widely viewed.
