Police in Delta State have arrested a 62-year-old woman found with a sack containing 178 live cartridges.

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a 62-year-old woman in possession of a sack filled with 178 live cartridges reportedly meant for delivery.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday, October 31, 2025, identifying the suspect as Charter Timide. He said the woman confessed to purchasing the ammunition from Onitsha Main Market.

According to Edafe, “On October 30, 2025, at about 12:30 p.m., operatives of the Bomadi Division, led by the DPO, CSP Adie Peter Bissong, while conducting a joint stop-and-search operation with the Bomadi Vigilante, intercepted a motorcycle along the Bomadi–Tuomo Road.”

He added that the rider, who appeared nervous, was transporting the 62-year-old suspect to Tuomo community when they were stopped.

“Upon a thorough search, officers discovered a concealed sack containing one hundred and seventy-eight (178) live cartridges neatly packed for delivery.
“When interrogated, the suspect admitted purchasing the cartridges from Onitsha Main Market, a hub long known for its bustling trade. Her confession immediately triggered further intelligence follow-up to uncover the destination and purpose of the ammunition.
“The suspect and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Headquarters for discreet investigation to trace possible links to armed groups or black-market suppliers.”
