Police arrest suspect for killing nursing mother and her baby over paternity dispute in Katsina
The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Sahabi Rabi’u, in connection with the gruesome m**der of a 30-year-old nursing mother and her 10-month-old baby in Sheme village, Faskari Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed the development in a statement on Thursday, December 11, 2025, revealing that the killings were linked to a paternity dispute.
He added that a second suspect, identified as Rabi’u’s friend, is currently at large, and a manhunt has been launched to track him down.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the offence and further stated that he conspired with his friend, now at large, to lure the victims to the outskirts of Sheme village, where they were killed. The bodies were then burnt and dumped inside a nearby well,” the statement read.

He further said the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, condemned the act, describing it as “barbaric and inhumane”, and assured the public that the command will ensure justice is served, as no stone will be left unturned during the investigation.
The PPRO noted that the Command appeals to the public for information that may aid the investigation and lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspect. Information given will be treated confidentially.
