Jimmy Kimmel Mocks Trump Over UN Escalator ‘Sabotage’ Claim
Jimmy Kimmel wasted no time ridiculing Donald Trump after the former U.S. president claimed he was the target of “sabotage” during his visit to the United Nations General Assembly earlier this week.
Trump and his wife, Melania, were riding an escalator inside the UN building when it abruptly stopped mid-way. The former president later took to Truth Social, alleging he had faced “triple sabotage” during the visit citing the stalled escalator, a malfunctioning teleprompter, and poor audio and even demanded the arrest of those responsible.
Kimmel, 57, clapped back with a tongue-in-cheek Instagram post on Friday, September 26. His longtime sidekick, Guillermo Rodriguez, posed at the top of an escalator with the caption: “Headed to Brooklyn! Escalator is working great!” a playful jab at Trump’s claims.
During his speech at the UN, Trump had stressed that if Melania wasn’t “in great shape,” the incident could have ended badly. He also described the stopped escalator as “a real disgrace.”
On his show, Kimmel continued the mockery, highlighting Trump’s dramatic reaction. The comedian, who only just returned to air after a suspension, also addressed Trump’s online rant about ABC giving him his job back.
“You can’t believe they gave me my job back? I can’t believe they gave you your job back! We’re even,” Kimmel fired back.
The late-night host went on to call Trump a “bully” and explained why he frequently targets him in his monologues: “I talk about Trump more than anything because he’s a bully. I don’t like bullies.”
