Gunmen k!ll APC chieftain in Zamfara
Umar Moriki, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, has been killed by suspected armed bandits.
Moriki was shot dead early on Saturday morning along the Gusau–Tsafe highway near Fegi village in Tsafe Local Government Area while travelling from Gusau to Kaduna.
The state APC confirmed the killing, describing it as a devastating loss for both the party and the state. Yusuf Idris, the party’s Publicity Secretary in Zamfara, noted that Moriki had just attended a party stakeholders’ meeting hosted by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, before embarking on the ill-fated journey.
During his lifetime, Moriki held several notable political positions, including serving as Vice Chairman of Zurmi Local Government Area, Director General of a state agency, and Special Adviser on Rural Electrification. He also contested the Zurmi/Shinkafi House of Representatives seat in the 2023 elections.
He died at the age of 62 and is survived by three wives and many children. The APC described him as a loyal party member, a committed public servant, and a man deeply involved in humanitarian support and community development.
