After nearly 30 years of marriage, Akon’s wife, Tomeka Thiam, has filed for divorce.
In court documents, Tomeka stated that she and the singer married in September 1996 but are now separating over irreconcilable differences.
According to TMZ, the couple share a 17-year-old child. Tomeka is requesting joint legal custody, physical custody, and spousal support, while also asking the court to prevent Akon from seeking support from her.
Akon has often been evasive about the number of wives he has, but Tomeka’s filing formally defines her stance in the long-speculated matter.
So far, Akon has not publicly reacted to the divorce news.
